Review
This story is very famous as having launched the genre of detective fiction and the style of detective made most famous by Sherlock Holmes. The deductive reasoning used by Dupin to solve the case became the hallmark of many imitative detective stories. Personally I found the story wordy and the explanations of reasoning too complexly explained. Poe’s style works well in his horror fiction, but here it works against following the argument. Later writers like Christie take this sort of story and make it exciting, not boring.
