Review
This is your classic fantasy adventure, one of the main inspirations of Dungeons & Dragons. The writing is superb. The cahracters are not deeply described but good enough for a novelette length. The story has a great imagination. The fight scenes are very well described. There are definite echos of Conan in this, except that it isn’t barbaric but more medieval in it’s setting. But it does sort of remind me of Tower of the Elephant. So much of today’s fantasy literature owes to Leiber’s story. Very readable today. Highly recommended to any fantasy fans.
