Synopsis
The robot was strictly logical, reasoning, as only its perfect machine mind could, from observed facts to inevitable—if wacky—conclusion.
History
First publication: Astounding, April 1941
Review
The second of Asimov’s robot stories and the first with Mike Donovan and Greg Powell. The story is all about how reason may depart from objective reality, but in the end can reach a conclusion that solves the same problem. It also gets into questions of reality and where we come from, and the nature of religious resistance to new information. The story is written in a light, humorous tone, but gets pretty deep. Recommended.
