Synopsis

An alien race believes burying their dying people in a black hole gives them immortality. They object to the scientific study of the local singularity.

History

First publication: Galaxy, June 1975

Review

This is a hard science fiction story dealing with black holes. The science doesn’t get too bad, but is deep enough for someone like me that really gets into it. Lots of speculation though and interesting ideas. The religion aspect is cool and much better handled than in the movie The Black Hole, which Mr. Bear tried to get a job working on. I really loved this story and I feel the science holds up pretty well today.
