Review

I read this when I was about twelve years old. At that time I had seen the movie a number of times. I also had never read as long of a book (though it seems pretty short now) or a book as adult as this. And it was 45 years ago. So I reread this almost with fresh eyes. Almost because something this iconic which has become so ingrained in our popular culture can’t be read from a totally ignorant perspective. I pretty much knew I was going to enjoy this. I have read novels that are more sophisticated in their writing, as well as longer novels and more terrifying novels. This still stands as a great thriller novel, lots of fun, action that keeps you moving along, and interesting characters. The characters have become a part of culture, thanks to the movie. There are differences from the book in the movie - quite a few! But this isn’t a case where I feel a need to say which one I like better. Books last longer, but movies have sound and color and popcorn. The two are different and both iconic. They deserve to be appreciated equally as different mediums. Both were a big part of my childhood. I have to say the Suntup edition I read here is incredible. Originally I had the paperback that came out after the movie. That book was literally everywhere - grocery stores, gas stations, etc. But paperbacks are cheap quality, where the Sunup edition is very high quality bookmaking. Recommended!!!
