Synopsis

Renthall lives in a town that is surrounded by Watchtowers. The Watchtowers are supposedly staffed by people who control the town and will punish wrongdoers. But people start to forget the towers are there. Everyone but Renthall.

Review

One of Ballard’s most surreal stories. You don’t really know where or when this town is supposed to be. It's almost like the TV set in the movie The Truman Show, except maybe Renthall is just paranoid and insane? Another excellent story from Ballard. Highly recommended.
