Review

While Ballard’s concept of an abandoned Cape Canaveral has yet to happen, this story is a stage set for Ballard’s poetic and surreal vision of the lost glory of the Space Race, which had not yet happened when this story was published. The writing is magnificent. The story is an excellent look backward at a lost space age and lost hopes for the three characters. Hopes they are not able to let go of while the rest of the world has moved on. Great story.
