Peter works as a bookseller and keeps a diary of all his experiences, mostly involving the bookshop, customers, publishers and his personal attempts to find a good woman.

Review
Based on Aldiss’ personal experiences, this fictional diary is a light-hearted look at bookselling. Far from boring, the story gets you intimately into the character of Peter. It isn’t uproariously funny, at least not by today’s standards, but is light, humorous and satirical.
