Review

This is the first book by Tchaikovsky that I have read. I’m glad I started here. First, this is a well-written book. It is divided into sections, each of which pays hommage to a great author. I’ve seen reviews that criticize this, stating that it feels like each section is too different. I disagree. I felt the sections flowed together logically, progressing this story of a robot servant’s odyssey through an apocalyptic landscape. The sections were chosen to go tegether to make a larger point about our society and the role of AI and robots. But I don’t feel that it preaches, just demonstrates a speculation about the future, based on observations of what is going on today. You know, just like Wells did in The Time Machine. This is classic science fiction, this is great SF and this is the best SF to come along in many years. It stands with the very best. Highly recommended.
