Review
This is a small fantasy story, a sort of Twilight Zone style fantasy. It can’t be seen as a major work by PKD, yet it still does have the deeper insight into humanity that characterizes his work. We all get something special out of our relationships. When we have a good time with friends we feel uplifted afterward, for a while anyway. It gives us a greater energy and a sense that life is worthwhile. But sometimes relationships can also be as damaging to the other person as it is uplifting to ourselves. Or it can even be damaging to both people. These relationships are toxic. Too little of a story to make it to Top Tale, but still very recommended.
