Review

I read this at the same time as I was reading Duma Key by Stephen King. While I can’t say the two books are the same, there were some interesting parallels. Mostly interesting in the comparison of a book by an established master of horror to this book, Juliano’s first novel. Mostly what stands out is the tone of the writing, how King has an established gritty and dark tone, while this book has a bit softer tone to it. Not to say the book isn’t dark and disturbing, but you can just tell that King has a lot more years and a lot more novels behind him. That’s not saying this book is at all bad or unenjoyable. If you love horror, this has everything and is very well written with terrific characters. And the Wisconsin setting just adds an extra dimension for us cheeseheads. Recommended.
