“Chewing Up the Innocent”
2007-02-00
short story
By Jay Lake

Synopsis

An artist is stressed between maintaining stability for his family and pursuing his exploding art career.

History

First publication: Clarkesworld, February 2007

Review

An odd story because I think of Clarkesworld as a science fiction magazine and expect at least a fantastic theme from the stories. I’m not saying authors can’t write other genres, but it seems that this story was wrong for the market. It is a character story. The characters are well described and interesting given the short story format. The writing is well done.
