Synopsis
A banker and a lawyer make a bet about whether the death penalty or lifelong confinement are worse. The banker puts up two million and the lawyer bets he can last 15 years and take the money.

A good Chekhov short story with a point to make about morality. Actually I think it makes more than one point about morality, society, greed, pride, life and more, but I may be reading into it more than is really there. A very well-done short story.
