History

First publication: Critical Mass, 2017

The first draft of Critical Mass was written during NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) in November of 2015. The idea first started with the final scene and then I filled in all the details leading up to that point. I always knew exactly how it had to end; everything else was about how it got there.

Over the next year or so, I made revisions and expanded it slightly, but it mostly just sat in my Unfinished folder with the first drafts of my other novels (Umbra Mortis, Suffer the Children, Uncertain Terms, A Life Disordered, and Earth’s Last Light).

After helping the Shared Words writers group self-publish their first anthology, I decided I wanted to do the same with Critical Mass, but it felt too short to be a standalone novel. So, I turned to the other members of the group to see if any of them wanted to contribute stories that would match it in subject and genre. Four authors submitted excellent stories that fit perfectly with my novella. I added two stories of my own and Critical Mass and other stories was born.
